HYDERABAD: Marredpally police have launched a man-hunt to nab the nephew of a TDP leader from Kurnool, accused of raping a minor girl from Secunderabad.

The accused has been identified as S Harikrishna, 33, whose uncle is a district-level leader of TDP in Kurnool. On June 11, a 16-year-old girl from Marredpally lodged a complaint with police alleging that Harikrishna had raped her at Sai Lodge in Kurnool town a day before. In her complaint, the victim told police that she became acquainted with Harikrishna through a common friend. By promising to get her a job, he reportedly lured her to Kurnool on June 9 and even arranged her stay at Sai Lodge.

The victim alleged that Harikrishna raped her at the lodge on June 10 and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. The next day, the victim left the lodge and approached Marredpally police. "A case was registered against Harikrishna under relevant sections of the Nirbhaya Act. We have formed a special team to nab him," Marredpally inspector B Ravindra Reddy said.
