BJP leader N. Srinivasulu urged the State government to
accord special consideration to Kurnool on account of the city being the
former capital of Andhra State. In a statement, he said people of
Kurnool and other Rayalaseema districts are under the impression that
all development projects are going the way of Coastal Andhra.
Every
decision announced so far was directed towards Coastal Andhra like
petro-corridor, airports, IT hub, capital and other projects. Mr.
Srinivasulu said it would deeply hurt the people of Rayalasema further
and cause a serious rift.
He said the
decentralisation of development, which is being harped repeatedly by the
new government, is far from practice. He asked the government to accord
second capital status to Kurnool and set up the High Court bench. Also,
he underscored the need for developing a well-connected road network
between Rayalaseema and Vijayawada by securing permission to widen the
road between Atmakur and Dornala through Nallamala Tiger Reserve.
Mr.
Srinivasulu said Kurnool district is lagging behind on the irrigation
front with many of the projects remaining incomplete or non-starter. He
said half of the district, especially in Aluru, Adoni and Kodumur, was
reeling under perennial drought. He urged the government to take up
Vedavathi project on Hagari and Gundrevula on Tungabhadra to stock 20 tmcft and early completion of lift irrigation scheme at Mallyala to supplement water to KC Canal.
