KURNOOL: At least 150 sheep were crushed to death when a speeding lorry hit the herd on NH-63 near Donekal village in Vidapanakal mandal in the wee hours of Thursday.
Witnesses said that some sheep farmers from Nemakal village in Kurnool district were on way to Bellary on Wednesday night.
When the herd reached a point near Donekal village on NH-63 in the early hours of Thursday, a speeding lorry coming towards Bellary hit the herd.
The lorry hit the herd as the driver could not control the steering. Around 150 sheep died on the spot and another 50 suffered serious injuries with multiple fractures and wounds.
About half a kilometer of NH-63 near Donekal village was covered with blood. Uravakonda CI Yellamaraju and Vidapanakal SI K. Linganna rushed to the spot.
They assessed the loss with the help of a veterinary doctor. The sheep farmers Phakirappa, Ramakrishna and Sunkaiah said that that they had incurred a huge loss. Police registered a case.
