A six-year-old girl, Gubbala Roshini, was tortured for three days to exorcise evil spirits that had supposedly taken possession of her.
Sources said that the child had burn marks all over her body from the torture she was subjected to.
According to the Pithapuram police, the girl’s parents are Gubbala Kameswara Rao, a mechanic from Kondevaram village in U. Kothapalli mandal and Sunitha, a housewife.
Girl was beaten with rod
Kakinada: Six-year-old girl Gubbala Roshini’s aunt’s marriage was fixed with one Suresh alias Cherry of Visakhapatnam.
Cherry, who frequently visited their house to meet his fiance, noticed that Roshini was crying strangely while asleep and Kameswara Rao, Roshni’s father, told him that his finances had taken a dip as Roshini was born during Amavasya (New Moon).
Cherry told the couple that the girl was possessed and they should take her to a black magician. Cherry himself then allegedly beat the child and burnt her with iron rods to exorcise her of the alleged evil spirits.
When the girl’s grandfather, Badram and uncle Gangadhar, came to Kameswara Rao’s house, they saw Roshini being tortured. Unable to see her pain, her grandparents took her to their residence at Annavaram.
The episode came to light when Kameswara Rao complained to the Pithapuram police that his daughter had been taken away.
The girl alleged that Cherry had beaten and burnt her with iron rods and had also dragged her with her dupatta around her neck.
The Pithapuram police is investigating the case.
