It is true that the state is experiencing division heat and any major initiative by government will be seen as an effort to complement the bifurcation efforts by Centre.
A recent initiative by the state finance department to gather the data of each employee in the state government attracted huge media attention. The exercise included collecting of data including the permanent address of the employee, the district in which he was posted. Though the department officials said nothing to suggest that the exercise is part of bifurcation, media went ahead to see it that way.
However, Principal secretary in the state Finance department PV Ramesh has on Tuesday clarified that the collection of employee data was for its digitalization, which will make administration further smooth. He added that the execise has nothing to do with state bifurcation.
The Finance department's directive had asked all the employees to furnish their details in a four-page Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet, by December 25. And officials responsible for disbursal of salaries (DDOs) were asked to submit the entire data by January 5. However, this due date has been extended to January 10, Ramesh disclosed to media.
