President of Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi Kuncham Venkata Subba Reddy asked the Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, to recommend dissolution of Assembly if he was sincere about stalling the bifurcation of the State.
In a statement, he said Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was trying to project himself as the champion of Samaikyandhra, but he has rendered very little for the cause. The division could be stopped only by averting passage of the Bill in the Assembly.
Mr. Reddy said the Centre should create separate Rayalaseema with Krishnagiri, Raya Vellore in Tamil Nadu, Kolar, Bellary and Chitradurga in Karnataka. All these areas were part of Rayalaseema before Independence. The Telugu-speaking population in these areas was yearning to join Rayalaseema for fulfilling their cultural aspirations.
Mr. Venkata Subba Reddy said the Centre has done a great injustice to Rayalaseema by ignoring the aspirations of the people while giving priority to developed Telangana region. Every time the State was divided, Rayalaseema was at the receiving end. The Rayalaseema leadership did not render justice to its people during Andhra and Andhra Pradesh formation. Even when the Andhra Pradesh was formed, no one bothered about Kurnool from where the capital was shifted. He said if the Centre failed to do justice or tried to further fragment the region by creating Rayala-Telangana, it would be sowing seeds for a larger agitation for united Rayalaseema.
