A 23-year-old aspiring pilot from Kurnool died in a plane crash during a routine training sortie at the Hooks Airport in Harris County of Texas in the US on Sunday evening.
Chamakura Karthik, who grew up in Hyderabad, it appears couldn’t land the single-engine Cessna aircraft which burst into flames upon touching the ground and crashed into the hangar.
The tragic news was broken to his family on Monday. His father Nagaraju is a BSNL general manager in Nagaland. His mother Malleswari, her family members said, had talked with him over phone on Saturday on the occasion of Kartika Pournami. He had enquired about his father and elder brother Rahul.
Karthik had undergone one-year training at the AP Aviation Academy at Begumpet a couple of years ago but went to the US for advanced training in September last.
According to his relatives and friends, Karthik had escaped death twice on two different occasions in the last 18 months. In the first instance, he was to have been present for flight training at the Begumpet Airport when a major fire accident occurred. But for some reason, he had to skip it. Two persons had died in that accident. In the other instance, he was hit by a car while returning home on a bike. He suffered serious injuries but recovered fast and pursued his dream of becoming a pilot. It seems he wasn’t lucky a third time.
According to his uncle C Veerappa, his body is expected  to be brought to his native village on November 21.
