The police arrested AIDWA vice-president Nirmala and three other activists of CPI(M) at Rachabanda meeting near Osmania College here on Tuesday. Minister for Minor Irrigation T.G. Venkatesh was scheduled to take part in the meeting.
The police who noticed Ms. Nirmala and other activists took them into custody much before the meeting started and shifted them to Fourth Town police station. They were taken into custody assuming that the leaders reached the place to create trouble. Later, addressing the meeting, Mr. T.G. Venkatesh came down heavily on the CPI(M) cadres saying that they remained a stumbling block in the development of the city. The CPI(M) MLA who was at the helm for 10 years should have addressed all the problems during his tenure rather than staging protests now, he said.
