All-party meet: Centre ‘divides’ parties

New Delhi/Hyderabad: After the Deepavali-eve lull in the political activity, the UPA government has once again plunged into action, with the announcement of dates for the all-party meeting on the Telangana issue.

The all-party meeting will be conducted on November 12 and 13. Four parties will take part on the first day and another four of the eight recognized parties of the state will take part in the meet on November 13.

This time, the all-party meet will be conducted by the Group of Ministers and not by the Union Home ministry, like it was the case earlier.

While making it clear that all the parties shall send their replies to the GoM latest by tomorrow (Tuesday), AICC General secretary in-charge of state affairs Digvijay Singh trashed TDP’s charges that the UPA government has targeted TDP with its new trick of the all-party meet.

He lambasted TDP for not giving representation to a Government-appointed GoM, even after maintaining that they can’t represent to Antony Committee, as it was appointed by the Congress party.

Digvijay suggested to a key ‘stake-holder’ the TRS, to give its suggestions to the GoM and not to make any comments, that may flare up public opinion in the Seemandhra region. And he added that he wants TRS not to create disturb peace in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Digvijay Singh’s warning to the TRS came along with an explanation for the same: “Congress has the responsibility of building bridges between the people of Seemandhra and Telangana.” He also added that Congress will give its reply to the GoM.

And in Hyderabad, state leadership of Congress and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu is meeting Seemandhra and Telangana leaders separately to discuss and take a decision on replying to the Union Home ministry’s letter and on the equally crucial issue of taking part in the all-party meeting.

While PCC chief Botsa has held a meeting with Telangana Congress leaders, Seemandhra leaders of TDP huddled up in a meeting with Naidu. T Congress leaders suggested to Botsa to send “only one report” to the GoM. They also questioned him why they were called separately to the meeting and why Seemandhra Congress leaders were not present in the same meeting.  However, after his meeting with T Congress leaders, Botsa refused to tell anything and made it clear that he can speak to media persons only after the meeting of Seemandhra Congress leaders to be held by Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and himself in the evening.

The T Congress leaders then met Deputy Chief Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha and launched a verbal attack on Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. Their anger might be attributed to the meeting of CM and PCC chief with the Seemandhra Congress leaders in the evening today.

And Seemandhra ministers met at Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s residence and discussed how to go ahead.

And it seems unlikely that a “single report” or at least a report that speaks either of bifurcation or of integration alone, can be sent to the GoM.

Other opposition parties like YSRCP have made it clear that they will neither give a reply to the Home ministry’s letter nor take part in the all-party meet.

AIMIM, which has its base in Hyderabad, has lost interest in going for one more all-party meet, going by the statements of its leaders.

And the stand of CPI, LSP, BJP and CPI (M) is well-known.
