Vizianagaram: Except for a few minor incidents on Monday morning, the riot-hit Vizianagaram town was limping back to normalcy. No violent incident was reported from any of the curfew-bound areas in the town.
Security forces patrolled troubled areas of Kothapeta, Gajularega, Palliveedhi, Clock Tower, Kanyakaparameswari temple junction, Dasannapeta, BC Colony, and VT Agraharam to prevent any resurgence of the violence unleashed by Samaikyandhra protestors on Saturday night.
An 18-month-old girl was sick from the smoke tear-gas shells used by the police in Jonnaguddi after women in the area had protested against the police who had lathicharged some people at Dasannapeta. The child was admitted at a private nursing home and discharged after treatment.
Inspector-general of police (North Coastal Zone) Dwaraka Tirum-ala Rao said the situation is under control and peaceful in Vizianagaram town. A one-hour relaxation of curfew will be permitted on Tuesday morning from 7 am. Police sources say 35 persons have been taken into custody in connection with the violence.
