The total blackout across the district on Sunday crippled almost every sphere of life. According to reports, around 3000 employees of AP Transco, Discoms and AP Geneco abstained from work protesting against the State bifurcation. The striking employees switched off the 400 KV sub-station at Nannur, affecting the power supply to Kurnool and Adoni divisions. There was no supply to Nandyal area also.
Meanwhile, the authorities expressed serious concern over the situation at the General Hospital where emergency departments require uninterrupted power supply. The acute medical care unit (AMC), ICICU and Children’s wards also need a continuous supply.
But the heads of the departments said the supply remained affected since the evening.
The doctors said it would be fatal for the patients who were kept under ventilator. Meanwhile, the generation at Srisailam Right Power House was affected due to the stir. All the seven units of 110 MW each went off. The public were also seriously inconvenienced by the withdrawal of power supply. Many were seen flocking the places with generator supply to get their mobile phones and other electronic devices charged.
