Collector C. Sudharsan Reddy released the World Heart Day poster at a function here on Thursday. Kurnool Heart Foundation, headed by the Collector, would observe the World Heart Day on September 29.
Addressing the meeting, Collector said health awareness was crucial for prevention of diseases.
Foundation secretary and cardiologist P. Chandrasekhar said that the organisation had been conducting programmes in connection with the World hear Day from 2003 and presenting the Outstanding Person of the Year Award to an eminent cardiologist or surgeon from 2005. This year hypertension expert Venkat S. Ram would receive the award. He said the World Heart Day was being observed with the theme: Take the Road to a Healthy Heart.
Dr. Chandrasekhar said cardio-vascular diseases were causing 17.3 million deaths every year in the world. The deaths are likely to touch 23 million by 2030. Vice-president of Foundation Bhavani Prasad said sedentary lifestyle was causing a number of diseases like diabetes, hypertension and cardiac problems.
