Union cabinet likely to discuss Telangana draft on Tuesday

A draft note on Telangana, which is reported to have been circulated among Union ministers, is likely to be discussed informally at the Union Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
According to sources, the draft, an abridged version of the seven-page T note, is devoid of technical aspects and only seeks constitution of a Group of Ministers to take the issue forward.
As the Cabinet meeting has been convened mainly to discuss the Indo-US nuke deal on the eve of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the US, the discussion on draft may not be of much importance. Sources said until the draft is signed by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, it does not become an official T note and he has not done that yet. Only after formal discussion by the Cabinet and clearance from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is he likely to sign on it. In all probability, the official T note will be presented to the Cabinet on Oct 3 after the Prime Minister returns.
Shinde reportedly made it clear to Seemandhra MPs and ministers when they called on him that the draft will be informally submitted to the Cabinet on Tuesday while asserting that there was no looking back on the Telangana decision.
Peeved over the Centre’s determination to push through the Telangana process, seven MPs, who announced that they would quit the Lok Sabha, reiterated their resolve on Monday. Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said, “We will meet the Speaker tomorrow and seek acceptance of our resignations.”
