Hyderabad: The Sivaramakrishnan Committee constituted by the Centre to identify suitable locations for setting up a new capital for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh will visit the state for the first time on May 9.
With polling in the state over, the committee will undertake extensive tours of various cities in Seemandhra region in two phases. In the first phase, the committee will visit Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Rajahmundry.
In the second phase, it will tour Ongole, Tirupati and Kurnool. In a related development, the Pratyush Sinha Committee, set up to determine the distribution of All India Service (AIS) officers to the two successor states, has recommended allotment of 163 IAS, 112 IPS and 65 IFS officers to Telangana and 211 IAS, 144 IPS and 82 IFS officers to Andhra Pradesh.
Sources said the committee, which met in New Delhi on Thursday, has also recommended giving AIS officers the option of choosing which state they would like to work for.
The AIS officers will give their options in sealed covers to the committee but the final decision on allotment rests with the Centre. Representatives of AIS officers had requested the committee to allow them the option.
However, the AP State Reorganisation Act, 2014, does not have this provision of options for AIS officers. Meanwhile, the state government on Thursday finalised the bifurcation of the office of the director-general of police and Intelligence department office located in the city.
The existing DGP office will be allotted to Telangana and the DGP of Andhra Pradesh will be allotted an office in the CID office in Lakdikapul. Other senior officials such as additional DGs and additional IGs of AP will also have to function from Lakdikapul.
