Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Suryaprakash Reddy on Saturday laid the foundation stone for two escalators which would be set up at a cost of Rs. 95 lakh at the Kurnool railway station.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Reddy said that he was trying his best to undo the injustice meted out to the Rayalaseema region from the side of Railways, adding that Kurnool railway station would be the first one in the region to get escalators. He said that as many as 32 escalators were being installed in important stations under the purview of the South Central Railway and 17 were being set up at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati stations.
Double-decker train
Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy further said that a double-decker train would soon ply between Secunderabad and Tirupati and hoped that the railway midlife wagon rehabilitation workshop with an investment of Rs. 250 crore would change the face of Kurnool and its surrounding areas. Further, a workshop was being set up at Dupadu at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore to carry out repairs to old wagons.
Speaking about the other developments, the Minister said the proposed railway under-bridge at Krishnanagar in the city would be a reality soon, adding that the upgrade of the Kurnool town railway station to Kurnool city had benefited the passengers, with more long-distance trains making halt there.
Additional General Manager K.L. Pandey said that the SCR had transported 95 lakh passengers and earned revenue of Rs. 7,690 crore. Divisional Manager Mahesh, MLC M. Sudhakar Babu and others were also present.
