While all eyes are on Wednesday’s meeting of the Group of Ministers tasked with creating a separate Telangana, that could well be its last session, Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Tuesday that it will look for ways to ensure none of the three regions — Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema — are hurt. “We are trying to find a solution that does not hurt anyone,” he told reporters. Earlier, he met a cross-section of leaders from the region, including Cabinet colleagues S. Jaipal Reddy and Jairam Ramesh.
It is also learnt that the Union Cabinet is likely to approve the draft Telangana bill at its meeting here on Thursday.
Some government sources claimed that Wednesday’s GoM meeting may not be the last one as issues like the status of Hyderabad are yet to be settled. But Mr Shinde dismissed speculation that the GoM report may be delayed, and insisted: “There is no delay. We will submit the report to the Cabinet soon.”
The GoM is also meeting individuals and office-bearers of outfits from both sides on an almost daily basis.
MoS railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy told the GoM, meanwhile, that Kurnool should be become Seemandhra’s capital if the state got divided.
