Kurnool: YSR Congress called for a 48-hour road block on November 6-7 as part of the ongoing agitation in protest against bifurcation of the state. Party leader Y. Visweswar Reddy briefed party cadre on the 48-hour protest and bandh in Seemandhra region to intensify the agitation against the Centre’s move on Telangana. The agitation reached its 97th day.
“The agitation should touch the Group of Ministers who have shown no concern for the long agitation in the region,” he stated, adding that all the NH roads, state highways would be closed during the bandh.
Visweswar Reddy alleged that the Telugu Desam has no clear stand to stop the state division. Quoting Telugu Desam’s decision not to participate in the all-party meeting with Group of Ministers constituted to oversee state division process, the YSR Congress leader alleged that Telugu Desam was supporting the state division.
Former mayor Bangi Anantaiah registered his protest by polishing shoes at the collectorate in Kurnool on Monday. Anantaiah, with his half-tonsured head has been protesting using different methods every day in Kurnool city and said that he will continue to be half tonsured until the Centre rolls back its decision on state division.
Speaking on the occasion, Anantaiah accused the Congress high command of lacking concern for the people from backward regions of Rayalaseema. Private schools, JAC and other teams continued protests at Sri Krishnadevaraya statue in Kurnool. Samaikyandhra activists held agitations at Adoni, Nandyal and other towns.
In Anantapur, Sri Krishnadevaraya University Joint Action Committee staged a dharna at the main gate of the varsity which has remained closed since the beginning of the agitation. Vishalandhra Parirakshana Samiti activists registered their protest by sleeping on the main road at Hindupur in the district. Speaking on the occasion, the leaders demanded that the Centre rethink its decision on state bifurcation.
YSR Congress leaders organised meetings at various parts in Kadapa district to make a success of their 48-hour protest. YSRC MLA K. Sreenivasulu reiterated its stand on a united state.
