Potti Venkateswarlu, kin of martyr of linguistic States Potti Sriramulu, took part in the protest against bifurcation – ‘Vidyarthi Samarabheri’ – at the Kondareddy Fort in Kurnool on Friday.
Mr. Venkateswarlu said the failure of elected representatives from Seemandhra was responsible for the Centre speeding up the bifurcation process.
Convener of student JAC D.V. Krishna Yadav called upon students of 14 universities in Seemandhra to take part in ‘Chalo Delhi’ on December 9 or any other date fixed later.
He alleged that the Congress was resorting to undemocratic means in bifurcation of the State by ignoring the Srikrishna Committee report. The government should have allowed a debate in Parliament on the report and taken an appropriate decision. However, the Congress wanted to create vote bank through bifurcation which caused heartburn among the people of the State.
Mr. Yadav said they would represent to leaders of all national parties to stall the Bill in Parliament as the people of the State were against the division. Also, the student JAC would pressure the MLAs to vote against the Bill in the Assembly. He also criticised CPI leaders for supporting the bifurcation, saying that the Communist leaders had sacrificed lives for formation of Visalandhra Pradesh.
