Parents want uniform rules

The demand for framing uniform rules for admissions to MBBS courses nationwide has intensified with various organisations and parents petitioning the Medical Council of India to come out with a new policy to check sale of seats in management quota.
They said different set of rules for management quota in different states  help medical colleges get away in case of irregularities.
Save Merit Society, an NGO, which approached the AP High Court over the irregularities on management quota admissions, has written to the MCI requesting it to draw a uniform fee structure and a uniform management quota for all medical colleges in the country.
In Andhra Pradesh, 40 per cent of the total seats in medical colleges are stipulated under management quota.
Several students, parents and NGOs have moved the AP High Court this year alleging sale of seats by collecting huge donations and denial of seats for meritorious students.
In Tamil Nadu, there is no management quota since a majority of the colleges are deemed. They are following their own rules to fill the seats. In Pondicherry, a similar system is being adopted.
In Karnataka, though there is no management quota, 15 per cent seats are earmarked for NRI quota.
Three types of tests are being conducted to fill the MBBS seats there. One is government CET, the second is Comed-K and the third is KRLM CET. There are allegations that the last is a bogus entrance test with complaints of malpractice.
While the deemed universities conduct their own entrance tests, the MCI  gets several complaints over faulty selection process every year.
