ANANTAPUR: Anantapur town police reportedly took a person into custody on Friday evening in connection with the attack on a bank employee at an ATM kiosk in Bangalore on November 19.
Police swung into action following a tip-off by a security guard at an ATM centre in the Ramnagar area of Anantapur town. The guard reportedly told the police that a man bearing appearance to theBangalore ATM attacker was withdrawing money from the ATM kiosk in Ramnagar. He was taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Sources said the man told the police that he hailed from Kurnool. He is said to be fluent in Telugu and Kannada.
When contacted, Anantapur district police, however, denied taking into custody any person in connection with the Bangalore case.
Police have come out with posters carrying a sketch of the Bangalore ATM attacker. They have also alerted security guards at ATM kiosks to keep a close tab on the movement of any suspicious persons at their respective centres. Special police teams from Bangalore are already in Anantapur district as the accused sold the cell phone, he had stolen from the bank employee after the attack, to a shop owner in Hindupur.
The Bangalore attacker is also believed to have murdered a woman in Dharmavaram town on November 10 and was caught on ATM CCTV cameras while he was withdrawing money at an ATM in Kadiri town using the cards he had stole from the victim.
Anantpur range police announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information on the attacker.Bangalore police also announced a reward.
