Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh transport department has seized nearly 200 private buses operating without permission during the last four days of a drive in the state. The operation was launched following the deadly accident of a private Volvo bus on the Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway burning 45 passengers to death.
The bus belonging to Bengaluru-based Jabbar Travels was completely burnt after it hit a roadside culvert.
On Sunday alone the authorities seized 42 buses of different private travel agencies on charges of running unauthorised operations and violation of various laws.
After the seizure of a large number of buses in Hyderabad and other places during the last three days authorities focused their attention on coastal Andhra on Sunday. Nineteen buses were seized near Vijaywada and six in Eluru. One bus was also seized in Kurnool district.
