Stay on transfer of Kurnool SP extended

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad bench of the central administrative tribunal (CAT) on Wednesday extended the stay on the transfer of Kurnool SP, K Raghurami Reddy, until further orders and directed the state to file its counter within two weeks.

The bench comprising Justice P Swaroop Reddy and Ranjana Chowdary (member-administration) was hearing the petition of the SP who challenged his recent transfer to Hyderabad within just three-and-half months of his taking over as SP of Kurnool.

The bench had stayed his transfer on Monday and wanted the state to come out with an explanation by Wednesday. J Sudheer, counsel for the SP, contended that the transfer was done in utter disregard to the Supreme Court judgment in the Prakash Singh case.

When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, the state's special counsel, Sridhar Reddy, told the bench that Raghurami Reddy's transfer was recommended by the police establishment board, which is very much in accordance with the order of the apex court.

When he said that Raghurami Reddy was an efficient officer and hence was being brought to Hyderabad, the bench shot back and wondered aloud whether it means Kurnool does not need efficient officers.

The state counsel complained to the tribunal that those who were insisting upon the implementation of the Prakash Singh judgment were themselves not following it.

The tribunal wanted the state and its board to consider the petition before the tribunal as a representation.
