Union ministers K Chiranjeevi and K Sambasiva Rao had bitter experiences when they visited flood-affected areas in Seemandhra on Tuesday.
Chiranjeevi was meted out a harsh treatment by college students at Rajam in Srikakulam district when he visited GMR Care Hospital to commiserate with those admitted there.
After speaking to the flood victims, Chiranjeevi, accompanied by PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Srikakulam district incharge minister Erasu Pratap Reddy and medical and health minister Kondru Murali Mohan, was emerging from the hospital when he faced a hostile crowd comprising students.
The students sat in front of the hospital raising slogans against Chiranjeevi for not making sincere efforts to keep the state united. The minister waited for some time for the crowd clear, but the demonstrators kept shouting anti-bifurcation slogans.
When Chiranjeevi, with the help of police, was trying to leave the premises, the students picked up the gravel kept there for construction purpose and threw at Chiranjeevi.
The stones kept descending on Chiranjeevi in a shower even as he managed to get inside his car. The police then chased the students away from there.
Kavuri Sambasiva Rao also faced a similar treatment, but of lesser intensity. After arriving in West Godavari district, the minister reiterated that he was committed to Samaikyandhra and that he would do what all was in his capacity to resist bifurcation of the state.
Later he left for rain-affected Koyyalagudem in the district where angry protestors raised anti-bifurcation slogans and asked him to return. The protestors kept shouting slogans for some, but police finally managed to placate them.
