YSR Congress President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today said that he would undertake an indefinite fast here from tomorrow against the Centre's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh. YSRC Party leader demanded the resignation of Seemandhra MPs and ministers, and requested them to join the protest for United Andhra Pradesh.
"All Seemandhra MPs must resign. I will be sitting in Hyderabad on an indefinite fast from tomorrow. I request every party to come together to fight to keep the state united. I also request Chandrababu Naidu today to support our protest," he said.
He slammed the centre and accused UPA govt of playing vote bank politics.
"No scientific procedure was followed in Telangana formation. Because they have power, they are doing as they wish. What kind of democracy is this where assembly resolution is being ignored. Elections are due in Andhra Pradesh, is there a tactical reason behind the bifurcation?" he asked.
"Constitutional rules are being flouted in creation of new state in AP. The decision to split AP is done to gain seats. The Centre has ignored the feelings and sentiments of people of AP," he added.
A delegation of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) would go to Delhi to meet the President and others to highlight the injustice being meted out to Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, Jagan told reporters here. "If Ordinance can be withdrawn, why can't the Telangana decision be taken back," asks Jagan.
The agitations being organised by his party would continue across the state, he said. He wondered how can the state be divided without the important issue being taken up in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, which has been the well-established practice.
Highlighting the dispute between states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, he asked how the water would be shared post the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He also highlighted the problem of revenue for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh without Hyderabad, from where major chunk of revenue comes. Seeking to mount pressure on TDP, he said the main Opposition should change its stance in favour of united Andhra Pradesh.
Later in the day, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu too said he would launch an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi from October 7 against the decision to bifurcate the state. "Congress has ruined the country and Andhra Pradesh. It has sought to bifurcate the state without addressing the concerns of Telugu people. Hence, I will go on an indefinite fast to expose Congress," he said.
He also went on to accuse the TRS and YSRC for conspiring with Congress in the decision. "Congress has entered into match-fixing with TRS and YSRC as well as conspired to divide Andhra Pradesh. I am launching a political battle to expose Congress," he said.
Congress has totally overlooked the 66-day agitation by the people of the Seemandhra region and made no effort to resolve the crisis, he charged.
