Hyderabad: The Lingampally-Nampally MMTS train on Wednesday morning crashed against the dead-end barrier at the Nampally railway station injuring two people including the driver.
The accident took place on platform number two as the driver failed to control the speed of the train. Two coaches were derailed and the driver’s cabin was damaged. Officials, however, said that no passenger was injured in the incident.
Sources said that the motor coach of the train, after entering platform number 2, bumped against the dead-end at 7.40 am. “The driver might have failed to apply the brakes.
It was not a brake failure; if that was the case, the driver would have come to know about it at the Lakdikapul station itself.” said divisional railway manager of SCR Sushant Kumar Mishra who investigated the incident with his team.
He added that the train usually halted 40 metres away from the barricade wall. “When the train comes into the station, it is normally moving at 9 km per hour. But, this train entered the station at 19 km per hour,” said Mishra. He said that the real cause for the mishap would be known after a detailed enquiry.
The driver’s cabin was damaged in the accident and the driver P. Manyam, was trapped. “His left leg and hand were stuck. He was given first aid on the spot and shifted to a private hospital,” said Mishra.
He had suffered a fracture in his left hand and his left foot was also injured. “He has undergone surgery and is out of danger,” said Dr Venkata Ramana of Care Hospital, Nampally. He added said that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the mishap. Another injured person, a railway employee, was given first aid at a private hospital.
