Kiran to talk to striking staff today

HyderabadThe much-awaited talks between the agitating state government employees of the Seemandhra region and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy will take place on Wednesday.
The fatigue of employees who are on strike for more than two months coupled with the Congress central leadership’s firm resolve to proceed with the state’s division and resistance from people of the two regions to the agitation following power outages are ample indications that the strike will soon end, said sources.
Official sources also said that the Centre’s mounting pressure on the Chief Minister to act to end the employees’ stir or be prepared for President’s Rule was the game-changer. “It not only resulted in the Chief Minister inviting the employees, but it is also expected to restore normalcy within a few days,” a senior official pointed out.
The employees’ organisations have decided to only participate in the talks and listen to what the CM has to offer. “We will not announce withdrawal of strike on Wednesday itself but we are also in no mood to continue the strike,” said a top functionary of APNGOs association.
The employees’ leaders will emerge from the talks on Wednesday with the plea that they will discuss with other members of the JAC and then convey their decision.
Sources said that the CM’s camp and employees’ leaders have been working out a safe exit, which include an offer from the CM, that he, along with other ruling party leaders from the two regions, will continue to oppose the state’s division at a political level.
There are also proposals that a delegation of employees’ leaders will be taken to New Delhi to meet the GoM and secure an assurance that all their concerns will be addressed.
The electricity employees calling off their strike after holding discussions with the CM also adds strength to the view that other employees will soon follow the suit.
