In Vizag, even emergency services faced power cuts, the port city had no power from 8.30 am at 6.30 pm. Drinking water was supplied on Tuesday night, when the power crunch eased somewhat.
In Vijayawada, government hospital superintendent U. Surya Kumari said generators were being used to keep the hospital running. “We have been calling the chief and divisional engineers but no one has responded. We have requested the collector to ensure that the hospital is exempted from the power cut, Dr Kumari said.
In Rajahmundry, back-up generators of BSNL went on the blink, affecting landline and mobile telephone services for some time. Elsewhere in the 13 districts and in several areas of the state, the essential services were affected due to power outage.
