Hyderabad: Is Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy preparing to resign along with his Seemandhra cabinet colleagues shortly to champion the cause to prevent the state from being bifurcated?.
This extreme step by the Chief Minister seems to be on the anvil if one reads between the lines from the advice given by him to some of his cabinet colleagues from the Seemandra region on Monday when they called on him to persuade for forwarding their resignations to the Governor.
Minister for Infrastructure Gunta Srinivas and Minister Law Erasu Pratap Reddy met the Chief Minister this morning at the camp office and discussed about the gaining momentum of the movement for a united state in the Seemandhra region and also the pressure being built up on them in their respective constituencies for quitting their posts and joint the “peoples movement”. Both appealed to the Chief Minisarter to forward their resignations pending with him to the Governor forthwith.
Both the ministers later drove to Raj Bhavan and met Governor E.S. L. Narasimhan and submitted a fresh set of their resignations and urged him to accept the same immediately. However the Governor is stated to have reminded them since the Chief Minister is the head of the State Cabinet, it is he who should recommend for acceptance and then only he would take the required steps. Hence the Governor told the two ministers that he was forwarding their resignation letters to the Chief Minister for necessary action.
The two ministers disclosed this to waiting media personnel after their meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan. According to Gunta Srinivas the Chief Minister had advised them to wait for two or three days till his return from New Delhi for continuing his efforts to persuade the central leaders to keep on hold the decision to bifurcate the state. The Chief Minister advised us to wait for few days so that they could together take a collective decision in this regard for the cause of a united state, Gunta Srinivas Rao explained.
Thus from the advice of the Chief Minister to his cabinet colleagues to wait for a few days for taking a “collective decision”, one could surmise that Kiran Kumar Reddy seemed to be reconciled to the fact that there was no other alternative for him but to quit in the event of the Congress HGgih Command sticks to its gun on bifurcation.
It is pertinent to note here that the Chief Minister while interacting with a delegation of farmers from Ananthapur district at his camp office this morning once again opened his heart to convey his anger and anguish over the CWC decision to bifurcate the state.
The Chief Minister is understood to have said that the central leadership should make an indepth study of all the problems that would arise, specially those concerning the farmers for their irrigation needs in Rayalaseema region, and then only move forward to bifurcate the state. He felt that Rayalaseema would turn into a desert in the event of bifurcation and the Srisailam Project would become a centre for controversy.
Asserting that the need for keeping the state united was his personal view, the Chief Minister at the same time opined that Telangana region would be plagued by electricity crisis once the state is divided. He also quipped that misleading propaganda was being made with regard to G.O 610. He reiterated that the central government should move forward to divide the state only after giving clarity on various issues and concerns to the people.
Thus it should not come as a surprise if the Chief Minister, who has been only indulging in shadow boxing on the issue of bifurcation of the state till now, delivers a deadly punch to the Congress bosses shortly !!
