Offering Harmless Creature like Goats, sheep & other animals to god is common. But here in 

Kodumur Town, Kurnool Devotes offer Alive scorpions that can string as "NAIVEDYAM" and even 

Garland with same creature 

This has been in practice for the past 40 years in Kodumur town

 in the district. The scorpion festival is celebrated in 

a grand manner at the Venkateswara Swamy temple on the hill 

in the town on the third Monday in Sravana masam 

every year. Surprisingly, the scorpions sting, which is diabolic 

on other days, does no harm to the humans on this 

day. Devotees including childless couples visit the Kondarayudu 

and seek his blessings for fulfillment of their wishes.
